Trash or Treasure?
The skin of most fruits is pretty much trash for the majority of us. The peels that get thrown out when we're enjoying a piece of fruit often have just as many healthy properties as the fruit itself! One of these peels is that of the delicious and super nutritious pomegranate. These little red seeds are filled with antioxidants that cleanse our systems, but did you know that that thick peel holding the fruit together can do wonders for your skin?
Pom's Healing Prowess
Pomegranate skins also harness the antioxidant powers that are abundant within the seeds. When used in facial treatments, this quality keeps pores clean and breaks down bacteria build-up on the skin's surface. This helps to ward off pesky pimples and to keep a clear complexion. This goes hand-in-hand with the mosturizing and anti-aging effects that pomegranate skins also have. These peels are fortified with various natural acids that help balance your pH level, while hydrating and locking moisture into your skin. Pomegranate skins also have the magical ability to slow down collagen break-down, meaning that pom facials can keep your skin tight and wrinkle-free!
How To
For a simple homemade DIY pomegranate face mask, you'll need:
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of yogurt
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of pomegranate peel powder
To make the powder, save the peels from three or four pomegranates and dry them out under the sun until they've lost their moisture. Grind the peels into a fine powder using a mixer or food processor. Combine the appropriate amount of powder with the other ingredients in a bowl and apply as a thick mask. Leaving this on for fifteen minutes, then rinsing will lead to nourished, radiant skin.
